Local Crossroad Bridge Repairs
Local Crossroad Bridge Projects
Project Overview
In 2016, the Illinois Tollway has scheduled repairs on six local crossroad bridges carrying traffic over the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), between U.S. Route 52 near Dixon and U.S. Route 30 in Rock Falls. The work is scheduled to begin in the spring and be complete by the fall of 2016.
In addition, repair work on the Reynolds Road Bridge in Franklin Grove has been complete.

Construction Update (07-07-16)
The ramp bridge carrying eastbound I-88 traffic over I-88 to Illinois Route 26 is closed through the fall. A detour will be posted. On I-88 in both directions, 15-minute full roadway closures are scheduled overnight on Friday, July 8 for bridge beam removal.
Repairs are completed at Pump Factory Road Bridge and Reynolds Road Bridge
Project Summary
In 2016, the Tollway will complete maintenance and repairs on local crossroad bridge projects on the western end of I-88. Local crossroad bridges scheduled for repairs include the Dixon Interchange bridge and Pump Factory, Hoyle, Atkinson, Bollman and Nelson Road Bridges over I-88.
Bridge repairs include pavement patching, replacing bridge joints and repairing beams, piers and girders. Additionally, bridge deck replacement is scheduled at the Dixon Interchange ramp bridge over I-88.
Bridge deck replacement at the Reynolds Road Bridge, which began in 2015, was completed this year.
Traffic Impacts
Closure of the local crossroad bridges is necessary because the bridge structures are not wide enough to maintain traffic and provide a work zone. In addition to providing a safe work zone for construction workers and drivers, closure of the bridges will allow work to be complete in half the time.
Bridge work will be staggered so that adjacent bridges are not under construction at the same time.
Most bridges will close for an estimated four weeks, except for Reynolds Road and the Dixon Interchange ramp bridge, which will require a longer closure.
In addition, at the Dixon Interchange, construction will be done in two stages with a break in the middle to accommodate local traffic and the City of Dixon's Petunia Festival. The first stage closure and detour is scheduled to be complete in late June, with work on the second stage scheduled to resume in early July and continue through the fall. All lanes on the ramp bridge will be reopened between stages of construction.
During construction, traffic on I-88 will be reduced from two lanes to one lane in each direction to provide room for the work zone throughout the majority of the project.
Full closure of the bridge allowed work to be complete in half the time.
Purpose
Pavement resurfacing will provide customers a smoother surface, improving the overall driving experience, and extend the life of the roadway.
These projects are being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation and Whiteside, Lee and Ogle Counties, along with local municipalities and police and fire departments
Building Green
The Tollway is committed to "Building Green" and minimizing the environmental impact of construction by reducing, recycling and reusing materials.
Work Zone Safety
Construction zone speed limits are in effect in all construction zones 24/7 and drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Visit the Tollway's Work Zone Safety page.
