East Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) Bridge Repairs

Project Overview

In 2016, the Illinois Tollway will complete maintenance and repairs on five bridges along the eastern end of the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88). In addition, repairs are scheduled on the ramp from westbound I-88 to the northbound Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) over Finley Road and on the ramp from southbound I-355 to eastbound I-88. Work is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year.

Project Resources

Project Summary

Work includes cleaning, sealing joint replacement on I-88 bridges over the Fox River, Yackley Avenue, Warrenville Road and Illinois Route 53, as well as the Highland Avenue Bridge over I-88.

In addition, work is planned on the ramp bridge over Finley Road carrying traffic from westbound I-88 to northbound I-355. Resurfacing work is also scheduled on the ramp carrying southbound I-355 traffic to eastbound I-88.

Traffic Impacts

Whenever possible, the Tollway uses traffic shifts and shoulders to keep as many lanes open during peak hours as were available before construction.

However, temporary off-peak lane closures along I-88, I-355 and the local roads will be needed to complete this work.

In addition, two weekend-long closures of the ramp from westbound I-88 to northbound I-355 with a posted detour will be needed.

Purpose

The I-88 bridge repairs are necessary to maintain and extend the life of these bridges and ramps.

This project is being coordinated with DuPage County and the Illinois Department of Transportation, along with local police and fire departments.

Building Green

The Tollway is committed to "Building Green" and minimizing the environmental impact of construction by reducing, recycling and reusing materials.

Work Zone Safety

Construction zone speed limits are in effect in all construction zones 24/7 and drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Visit the Tollway's Work Zone Safety page.
